“ We visited Toast in St Albans today for a relaxed breakfast brunch and it absolutely delivered. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming without feeling cramped, making it a great spot to start the day whether you’re catching up with friends, heading out after a walk, or just enjoying a slow morning. The coffee was excellent – properly good quality, well made, and exactly what you want alongside brunch. It’s clear they take it seriously, and it complemented the food perfectly. Food-wise, everything was spot on. The full English was generous and well cooked, with quality ingredients and none of that greasy heaviness you sometimes get. Everything felt fresh, balanced, and clearly made with care. The standout for us was the eggs with hot honey halloumi. The salty, crispy halloumi paired beautifully with the sweetness and gentle heat of the hot honey, and the eggs were cooked perfectly. It’s one of those dishes that feels indulgent while still being comforting and well judged. Service was friendly and efficient without feeling rushed, and the overall experience felt relaxed and well thought out. Toast is clearly doing brunch properly – great food, great coffee, and a genuinely lovely vibe. We’ll definitely be back again soon. ”

“ Toast makes some great food. Really happy with the service, food quality and atmosphere of the place. Due to the size of the restaurant, the noise can be a bit loud but you can still talk and hear each other. It's a very cozy brunch place, one of my favourite. Food wise, was fantastic, very aromatic and tasteful. Variety of options on the menu which is great. ”

“ We came to Toast to celebrate my son’s 19th birthday, after he successfully convinced me that spending £15 per person on toast was, in fact, a sensible life choice. I arrived slightly dubious. I left fully converted. Toast is a small, intimate space, probably no more than 40 seats, and it was buzzing when we arrived around midday. The three of us ordered different dishes and every single one was absolutely delicious. Beautifully cooked, quality ingredients, fresh flavours and clearly made with real care. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming without ever feeling cramped. It’s the kind of place that works just as well for a relaxed catch-up as it does for starting the day after a walk or enjoying a slow brunch. Service was friendly, efficient and unrushed, and the whole experience felt thoughtful and well put together. Toast is doing brunch properly. Great food, great coffee and a genuinely lovely vibe. We’ll definitely be back again soon. ”

Hopefully they do something with the festivities coming up! ”

“ Perfect place for brunch/breakfast. Huge portions. Staff were friendly and polite. Coffee was great. Mushrooms were a bit bland, not really any garlic or flavour but still nice overall. ”

“ Upon seeing the reviews and being back for the Christmas Holidays, I had to make a visit. Managed to drag a friend along who was also eager. We arrived knowing that it was walk-ins only so were slightly nervous but as our plans were flexible we weren't worried about beinbg turned away. If you come in a big group beware you may have to wait! Upon entry we were immediately sat down at a table and provided with menus and it didn't take long to make our choices. I opted for the Bubble and Squeak toast and my companion went for the veggie breakfast. Drinks wise, we got an espresso and a latte. What I immediately apprieciated that was with the espresso they asked if I wanted tap water on the side which of course we both wanted to have with the meal. When the food arrived it was beautifully presented and apparent that the chef's cared about the food they made. It was something that really shone through even before we had a taste. Whilst the concept of things on toast has been around since forever, the way they do it here bring it to another level. The bread used is of an exceptional quality, the slice was lovely and thick and the different options available means there's something for everyone. Neither of us were dissappointed by our choices as both plates were demolished in short order. Another thing to note that all ingredients were perfectly seasoned and cooked with the eggs being just right in terms of their cookedness (for my tastes). On top of this the service was top tier with the staff being verhy attentive and filling up our tap water bottle when it finished and always having a smile on their faces emanating positivity. I wish I'd taken their names as they all deserved a raise! Overall, this was a great experience for brunch / lunch and will be visiting again to try some of the other options. In terms of the prices, for how satisfied we were after the meal, paying £15 for our toasts and drinks including a well deserved 10% service charge felt very reasonable. Definitely give this place top marks and would highly recommend you visit. ”

“ Local independent artisan joint serving great food and baked treats. Stunning environment and friendly vibe. Only took away one star because the miniature enamel vessels that they serve mushrooms / beans / poached egg etc in - we had four on our table and all of them had significant enamel chipped away exposing the rust area underneath which isnt aligned to food safety principles ”
